TC MOVES TOWARD SIDEWALK CAFE ENCLOSURES IN MAPLEWOOD VILLAGE

Enclosures like this would be allowed in Maplewood Village

The Township Committee this week gave initial approval to allowing cold-weather enclosures for sidewalk cafes in Maplewood Village.

The TC voted, 5-0, for the ordinance on first reading that would allow eateries to erect structures that would enclose sidewalk cafes in winter months similar to what is allowed currently for many doorway entrances.

Specifically, it would allow the structures between Nov. 1 and May 1, with restrictions on placement and distance from the curb. The idea was first put forth in September.

A final vote will take place with a public hearing at the next TC meeting on Jan. 17.
