As a lover of nature, you will find Mary Jane Van Zeijts in search of the perfect light. Her pastel images are both luminescent and moody, a juxtaposition she catches in a seemingly effortless manner. Van Zeijts’ drawings, that contain both impressionistic and abstract elements, have a distinct feel of an oil painting. Her use of color transports you to that exact moment in time.

Mary Jane Van Zeijts received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art where her concentration was in drawing and printmaking. She earned a Master of Arts in Education with honors from New York University and has taught both publicly and privately while exhibiting widely.

A professional artist with experience in several mediums, she is at present exploring pastel as a means to express her feelings through the subject matter that moves her. Going into nature for inspiration and ideas, Van Zeijts lays the foundation for her work outdoors and finishes each piece in the studio. In December 2015, Van Zeijts opened STUDIO 268 in Setauket, New York where she teaches and shows her work as well as the works of local artists. Van Zeijts’ award-winning work can be found in both public and private collections.
